Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine
"<p class="p1">The new £54m Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) building was officially opened by HRH Princess Royal on the 28th May 2012. The contemporary building is the first large-scale, purpose-built facility of its kind in the UK and provides accommodation for up to 250 stem cell scientists. It contains state of- the-art laboratory and support space and a clinical translation unit - enabling the production of cells suitable for future therapeutic applications. The building’s internal form mimics a ‘pebble in a pond’ effect: write-up spaces and offices are located around the perimeter, with concentric rings of laboratories and smaller specialised rooms moving towards the centre of the building. Sustainability is central to the design of the SCRM building and 76% of the energy needed to operate the building is contributed from renewable sources. Sustainable design features include solar panels on the roof, a ground source heat pump system below ground and rainwater collection for flushing the WCs.<\/p>"
