Iris Murdoch Building
"<p>The Iris Murdoch Building is the home of the Dementia Services\u00a0Development Centre (DSDC) at the University of Stirling, it is an\u00a0international centre of excellence whose purpose is to improve\u00a0lives for people living with dementia, promote creating dementia\u00a0friendly communities and improving policy and practice. Dame\u00a0Iris Murdoch was an Irish novelist and philosopher, diagnosed\u00a0with Alzheimer\u2019s in 1997. The building was officially opened in\u00a0March 2003 by Dame Judi Dench who, along with Kate Winslet,\u00a0portrayed Iris Murdoch within the movie \u2018Iris\u2019.\u00a0This was the first dementia friendly public building in the UK\u00a0and still attracts visitors from around the world. It houses the\u00a0Design and Technology Suite, which provides examples for those\u00a0looking to visually understand how they can make space more\u00a0supportive for someone living with dementia.\u00a0Come along to visit the Iris Murdoch Building during Doors<\/p>\n<p>Open 2018 and:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 take a handset tour of the Design & Technology Suite, tour\u00a0duration approx. 30 mins. Please visit the reception desk on\u00a0arrival for a tour handset (handsets only available in English).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 view the artwork on display within the gallery<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 access the DSDC publications and information library<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 take a walk in the DSDC\u2019s dementia friendly garden and take\u00a0in the breath-taking views over Airthrey Loch towards the\u00a0castle<\/p>\n<p>Disabled access \u2013 the building is fully accessible by wheelchair\u00a0but entrance doors are not automatic opening - staff will be able\u00a0to assist if required.<\/p>"
