The School itself was founded in early 19C by Dr John Brown who built it in his garden. The current buildings show evidence of school design at the end of that century including, for example, separate entrances for boys and girls. Within the Museum of Education a room has been reconstructed and equipped in the style of a classroom in Aberdeen as it would have been in Victorian times. The Laboratory moved to its present site in 1923 and now employs more than 300 staff in scientific, technical, professional and support roles.</p><p>The Lecture Theatre, Fish House and Conference Room will all be open and Marine Scotland will have interactive displays showcasing the types of work that they do such as: taste testing; pipetting; marine litter games; fish display; fish scale reading and microscope use. The East window of the present church incorporates tracery from the earlier building while areas of panelling in the church are made from pews taken from the East Kirk of St Nicholas. The Church is now known as Greyfriars John Knox Church following the closure of the church at Mounthooly and the joining of the two congregations.</p>]]></dcterms:description>

No tower but a bellcote containing bells recast from the fragments of 'Auld Lowrie', the great bell which had hung in the tower of the Kirk of St Nicholas from 1351 until it was shattered when it fell during the fire of 1874. Of greatest interest are the windows. Those in the nave are by William Wilson, the greatest glass worker in Scotland in his time, and were executed and dedicated between 1960 and 1971. It represents a partnership of various public and voluntary sector agencies and young people together with business and commercial interests. It forms the basis for a comprehensive strategy for tackling issues of the City's young people, in particular the issues of youth homelessness and unemployment. Aberdeen Foyer has two buildings in the city. The Training and Resource Centre occupies the former Marywell Street School. The boldly modern treatment of the conversion earned a special mention in the 1998 Civic Trust Award Scheme. The second Foyer building, in the former Trinity Church in Crown Street, similarly received a special mention in the Award Scheme this year.</p>]]></dcterms:description>
