<dc:title>Castle of Park</dc:title>
<dc:description><p>Discover the comforts of the life of a Jacobean laird at this fine towerhouse standing above Luce Bay. Castle of Park was built in 1590 by the son of the last abbot of Glenluce, who left his inscription over the door: THIS VERK VAS BEGUN THE FIRST DAY O MARCH 1590. BE THOMAS HAY OF PARK AND JONET MAK.DOVE HIS SPOVS In the 1970s, after it had stood empty for a century, Historic Scotland repaired the tower and later leased it to The Landmark Trust. Outwardly plain and austere, the interior of the building is now plastered and furnished, providing the visitor with a very different impression of life for a Jacobean laird than that given by the bleak shells of so many abandoned towers. Generously proportioned rooms, high quality stonework and a hall 30 ft long with a fine fireplace. 'Cap-house' at the top of the tower with glimpses of the sea. Not suitable for wheelchair access as each floor is reached by a spiral staircase.</p></dc:description>
