Douglas Mausoleum
<p>The Mausoleum is an imposing memorial to the history of Castle Douglas and a fine example of early nineteenth century funerary architecture. It contains the remains of 25 members of the Douglas family, beginning with Sir William - the founder of Castle Douglas, who died in 1821. The last member was interred in 1965 (George Douglas from New York). The Mausoleum became an A listed building in 1971 and members of the Community Council are dedicated to preserving this historic structure.</p><p> </p>

<p>Directions (Castle Douglas, DG7 1RU):<br />From the Visitor Information Centre on Market Hill, Castle Douglas turn left on to King Street. Follow this road out of town and then take the road to the left for Threave Gardens. Continue past the entrance to Threave and the Mausoleum is on the right. From the A75 take the B736 at the Threave roundabout towards<br />Castle Douglas, turn right towards Threave Gardens and continue as above.<br /><br />Assisted wheelchair access</p>
