Title

Lochhouse Tower

Description

Visit Lochhouse Tower, the former stronghold of the Johnstones, known for their fierce battles with the Maxwells. One such battle took place on 6th December 1693, when 800 Johnstones ambushed the panicked Maxwells as they tried to retreat.  Lord Maxwell lost his life that day, along with 700 of his men and many Johnstones.

The Tower was restored around 30 years ago and is now owned by Mr and Mrs Clarke who welcome visitors to tour the building over the weekend.
