Morgan Academy FP Association

Description

Originally the Morgan Hospital founded by John Morgan (1760-1850) of Balgay House modelled on George Heriots Hospital Institute in Edinburgh. This imposing landmark building of tremendous architectural significance was designed by Architects Peddie and Kinnear, 1863-8. It re-opened in 1889 under the Dundee Schools Board as Morgan Academy. It was significantly enlarged (1913-15) by James H Langlands and been adapted and extensded numerous times since, notably by Tayside Region Achitects Department in 1991-2. This Grade A listed building is a fine example of high gothic stone and slate Scottish architecture. The building has remained a focal point to the Stobswell are since its opening in 1868 to much pomp and ceremony.
