Railway Station

Dublin Core

Title

Railway Station

Description

This is one of the most significant buildings in Milngavie. Originally opened in 1863 as the terminus of a branch railway also serving the commuter suburb of Bearsden, the station was greatly enlarged during the late 1890s with the addition of platform awnings, to reflect Milngavie's own popularity as a developing place of residence for members of the Glasgow business community. The original station building of 1863 can be viewed to best advantage from the car park.
