Musselburgh Old Town Hall

Description

The Tolbooth and Old Town Hall at the east end of the High Street in Musselburgh is one of the town’s oldest buildings much of it dating to around 1590, although over the centuries, the building was destroyed by fire, rebuilt, altered and added to, reflecting changing social and political circumstances. At different times, it has been court house with police cells that can still be seen, burgh council chambers, town hall and community hall.  On display inside is a rare clock given to the burgh by the Dutch States in 1496.
