East Renfrewshire and Glasgow City councils are developing a new country park called Dams to Darnley within the greenspace next to Barrhead, Darnley and Newton Mearns. The country park aims to provide recreational activities for local residents and visitors through a network of paths for walking, cycling and horse riding.A programme of free country side ranger led guided walks and events is publicised in Wagtail, the country park's quarterly newsletter.

A. Peak into the past mill lades, mineral railways and the 'mysterious' Waulkmill Glen ruin. Take a glimpse into the industrial heritage of the Darnley area on this guided walk. The route will mainly cover flat level paths, but will occasionally venture off the beaten track, so please wear suitable footwear and clothing.

10.30-12.30: Meet Ashoka restaurant car park, Carselet Road, off Nitshill Road, Darnley.

B. History of the Barrhead dams. Join the rangers on this walk which will look at the history and wildlife of the Barrhead dams and the wider countryside. This walk will not alway cover flat ground, so a moderate level of fitness is required. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing.

14.00-16.00: Meet St Luke's High School car park, Springfield Road, Barrhead.
