The original complex was designed by Sir Basil Spence.This initial stage received a Civic Trust Award. Spence created homely accommodation with garden spaces between the cottage rows. A recent extension by Davis Duncan Architects to provide additional bedrooms, dining and lounge space received a Civic Trust Commendation.
