Morningside Cemetery was opened in 1878 by the Metropolitan Cemetery Company and bought by the City of Edinburgh in 1992. It is still a working cemetery and, despite the loss of some ground to development, retains typical features of a late Victorian cemetery. Amongst those buried there are Robert Louis Stevenson?s nurse, a number of female medical and nursing pioneers, a Nobel Prize winner, a Hungarian patriot, and several artists. There are over 80 Commonwealth War Graves.
