Description

Monumental waste handling plant, 1970, handling and processing nearly 500,000 tonnes of Edinburgh's refuse each year. The refuse is compacted into containers and despatched by rail to landfill at Dunbar. The stable block and offices of the original facility, 1893, by the City Engineer, now houses a visitors centre with an explanation of the process.�
