The Queen?s Nursing Institute Scotland celebrates its 130th anniversary by opening its office on Castle Terrace to the public for the first time. Designed by James Gowans and completed in 1870, the Institute acquired the property in 1889 as a training centre for Queen?s Nurses, funded by money raised for Queen Victoria?s Golden Jubilee. The Frontier Nursing Service in America, started by Mary Breckenridge, was the direct result of her visit to QNIS and meeting with Scottish Queen's Nurses, some of whom travelled with her to America to help set up the service.
