The 12-storey building is a feature of the Glasgow skyline. Designed by William Whitfield, the present day University library traces its beginnings from 1475. This world-class research library started as a library room (libraria) in Glasgow Cathedral, before moving to the High Street in the 17th century, and then to Gilmorehill in 1870.
