The Foundation Stone for the Church was laid in 1961 and the church was completed in 1962. It was the first new church to be built in the new town of Cumbernauld. As the church was to serve the whole town a site on top of the hill near to the Town centre was chosen. The design of the building was influenced by what became known as the New Liturgical Movement. Instead of the usual arrangement the nave is wider than it is long. This means the congregation are much closer to the altar. Above the altar is a beautiful wooden carving of Christ the King in the shape of a cross and we have a peaceful Lady Chapel which will be open for quiet prayer and meditation all day.
