Bishopton - Bishopton Parish Church

Dublin Core

Title

Bishopton - Bishopton Parish Church

Description

Designed by the renowned architect David Hamilton, the congregation are celebrating 200 years of worship in this building. The present building was built in 1815 to replace an earlier building that had fallen into a state of serious disrepair. The presence of a church on this site goes back to the 12th century with the establishment of what was originally called the Erskine Church, renamed the Bishopton Church to avoid confusion with the new community and church of Erskine. The long story of this church extends over some 900 years and is rich in historical detail. As part of the Bicentenary Commemoration, a book about this history has been published and is available to purchase.
