Join us at the Engine Shed this Doors Open Days in Stirling to construct your own building out of paper. This is a drop-in workshop and is suitable for age 5+, Parental/guardian supervision is required for the duration of the workshop.

Conservation Science 10.30 – 1.00

This Doors Open Days in Stirling join a member of Historic Environment Scotland’s Conservation Science team and explore the many techniques used to conserve our built environment. During your visit you will hear about the scientific analysis of building materials and how this helps us to conserve more than 300 properties in Historic Environment Scotland’s care. Suitable for all ages.

Digital Documentation 1.30 – 4.00

Historic Environment Scotland’s Digital Documentation team uses cutting edge digital technologies to document our heritage in 3D. The data from digital heritage projects like the Scottish Ten and Rae Project continues to be used to inform conservation, heritage management and interpretation. Join a member of the team to hear more about their work and to see how they conserve our heritage. Suitable for all ages.

Doors Open Day Photo Competition

Stirling is a city full of rich history, and its story is reflected in its architecture. From the changing face of our high streets, to some of Scotland’s most renowned architects and royal residences, Stirling’s buildings tell the exciting stories of the city itself.

For Stirling Doors Open Days, the Engine Shed, part of Historic Environment Scotland (HES), are running a photography competition. Participants should submit a photo of their favourite building in Stirling to be in with a chance to win a day out at Stirling Castle, including lunch for 4 people (up to a value of £50). The top entries will be showcased at an exhibition at the Engine Shed.

All entries must be submitted to technicaleducation@hes.scot, with the subject line ‘Photo Competition’ and received by no later than Monday 17 September.

All entries for Stirling Doors Open Day photo competition which are displayed at the Engine Shed will be used solely for the purposes of the exhibition. Permission will be required from the copyright holder to use any of the photographs submitted for the competition for any other purpose. Should any photographs submitted for the competition feature people, photographers will have obtained permission to take and use these photographs for the competition.
