Description
Caravat Barp is another example of a ‘Long Cairn’, 165’ overall, with some evidence remaining of a wide ‘horned’ entrance at the East end. Erskine Beveridge noted that it was ‘greatly dilapidated’ at this end, since it had been used as a quarry by local residents for the building of the several shielings and enclosures. Originally this must have been a significant landmark, since the narrower west end in Beveridge’s time stood ‘to a height of 10 feet’.
