Dunure: Harbour and Lighthouse
Dublin Core
Title
Dunure: Harbour and Lighthouse
Description
The harbour celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2011. Conceived by Thomas Kennedy, it was an ambitious plan to create a harbour on a difficult stretch of rocky coastline. The tower was a vital element in recognising the entrance and its function may be unique in Scotland.
The fishing community thrived and there are still lobster boats and pleasure craft using the harbour today.
