The estate was bought in 1764 by Richard Oswald 'the Peacemaker' born in 1705, who negotiated the Peace Treaty following the American War of Independence. Fine plaster ceilings by Robert Adam, carved marble fireplaces and ornamental doorcases.
Category A listed building extensively restored externally with funding from ERDF, Historic Scotland and SAC, with support of Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire. Owned by the Scottish Agricultural college, which teaches land-based courses.
