Dating from 12C there has long been a church on this site. The current building is listed category B. The T plan shape with its outstanding bellcast-roofed tower dates from rebuilding in 1764, of which little more than the tower survived a major fire in 1880 (rebuilt 1883 Wardrop and Reid).
