Assembly Rooms

Description

This Category B listed building is owned by Dumfriesshire Freemasons, and, as its name suggests, was built in 1825 for assembly and celebration. Doonhamers will tell you it has the best dance floor in the southwest of Scotland. You will have a chance to see why by getting under the floor; and while you're at it go above the ceiling too in order to visit a long-hidden minstrel's gallery! You can also see round the Masonic Temple. Learn a bit about freemasonry in Dumfries. STB access category 2: assisted wheelchair.
