South Villa & Ice-house

Dublin Core

Title

South Villa & Ice-house

Description

Listed Category A 1830 almost certainly designed by William Robertson for Mrs Grant of Elchies, South Villa is the epitome of the Regency Villa in Elgin. Two storey under a low pitch pavilion roof, the central entrance fronted by a semicircular portico with Greek-Doric columns. 2 storey canted bay windows decorate the flanking elevations, all enriched by original cast-iron railings. The external blind boxes to the windows are an unusual survivor. Fine plaster ceiling and Ionic columned screen in entrance hall, otherwise little of original interior has survived. Domestic ice-house in garden.
