Duff House
Dublin Core
Title
Description
Duff House was built between 1735 and 1740 as a seat of the Earls of Fife. The Duffs were an ambitious family who acquired great wealth, power and status, finally marrying into the Royal family in the late 19th century. In the 20th century it was in turn a hotel, sanatarium and occupied by troops during the Second World War. In 1995, after extensive restoration, it opened as a visitor attraction and art gallery. Today it is run in partnership by Aberdeenshire Council, Historic Scotland (the building's owners) and The National Galleries of Scotland, who provide the permanent collection of paintings and furniture.
